Really nice-looking watch - a touch more feminine than my last grey/blue Timex Ironman that I received as a gift (that crapped out when I went swimming with it... so much for water resistant to 100m - I didn't even go 10ft and water got it and broke it). Anyways, it took a little getting used to seeing the seconds tick by on the top row, with the day and date showing but not the month, but it was an easy adjustment. The buttons are a little smaller than those on the Ironman so it's good I have small fingers to push them (though I have to push them a couple of times before it takes effect on occasion). The only other thing I wish I could change was the beeping sound that you can't turn off whenever you change mode or do any setting changes. But other than these minor issues, it is really a great watch, and I can't really complain about the price... you can't beat $15! If this one dies, I would definitely buy this one again.

I really like this watch. It's comfortable to wear to work everyday. The only complaint I have is setting it. Even with the instructions, it's hard to set. I'm not really sure how I did it the first time, but now with Daylight Savings, I can't reset it, so I just have to add an hour for the next 6 months till we change again. Or maybe I can find someone who can figure it out.

The Timex easy reader watch is a perfect beginners watch for everyday use for those who don't want anything fancy. The watch is very comfortable to wear and is very lightweight. It includes the indiglo nightlight for use in dark areas, a simple feature that many watches don't have. The only problem I have with the watch is the leather band is a little on the long side and it is very thin not as the picture shows. I plan on replacing the band soon. Overall I recommend this watch for basic everyday use it is probably the best one on the market.

Very easy to read simple watch. This watch is a nice change of pace from all of the "modes" "gadgets" and "gimmicks" on other watches that 99% of the population never uses. Great price on an ageless classic too. The quality seems to be typical timex of my youth..... excellent! One reviewer complained about the band being small. My wrist is quite large and band fits me just fine with plenty of room for adjustment. Great job Timex!

TIMEX - Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. And they were serious about the ticking. As far as simple watches go, this watch is perfect. It accurately keeps time and sure enough when I wake up in the morning the date has changed to the proper date. What I did not know I was getting is a watch that also serves as a metronome. Seriously, if this watch was as large as Big Ben is, all of Europe would be able to hear the movement of the second hand. On the positive side, once you wear the watch for a while you stop noticing the sound of the movement. That is until someone across the room asks you if you also hear a ticking sound.

This watch seems well built and durable. Looks stylish, has a date function, dial easily seen at night when pressing the set button, strap is durable (not plastic, however not yet able to determine the life span). Compared to the others like Casio(which I had previously) it is a bit large. Fits nice on the hand but not the thinnest of watches. Lightweight for the size.

Again, for the price you can't go wrong.

Reviewing Timex 54571:

This is my second Timex Ironman. It has a nice feature set for the recreational/fitness runner: light, compact, and the top button for starting/splits is very convenient. The plastic strap is much better than the nylon/velcro strap on my previous watch, which had to be washed regularly because it absorbed perspiration.

Unfortunately I can't recommend this version of the Ironman for runners because of the display, which has light gray numerals on a black background. It looks cool, but is very hard to read in dim light. Even in bright outdoor light, it takes a second longer to read than my old watch, and it gets annoying really fast.

Also, this version doesn't have some of the features of the newer models, like event alarms, and repeating timers.

I ordered this watch as a Christmas present for my husband. A few days later, I noticed a package on the side of the road around the corner from our house while walking our dog. I was surprised when I looked closer and saw my name on the label. We had had a bad, windy storm that week and I guess that's how my package ended up squooshed and soaked on the side of the road. Though the box and plastic packaging were badly damaged, the watch was unscathed and still made a great present. My husband loves it. I've been using Ironman watches as my running watch of choice for years and have never had to do anything other than replace the battery. Great watch choice.

What a great watch. I use it for swimming, it has a 75 lap timer. It is one of the few watches that can count enough laps for you to swim 3K.

Horseback riding! The OVA is perfect to time the horses workouts. The angle on your wrist makes it visible without adjusting your hand hold on the reins.

Running, it has BIG numerals. Even old guys can read it while running.

The only drawback is the band. My first watch lasted 3 years, 5 day a week workouts, before the band gave out. The watch was still working but the band gave out.

Timex, for $10, took the watch back, and sent me a brand new one. I have two now.

He never took it off since he got it!!! the band of the watch is ideal it does not get in the way the band strap is perfect - it has a tuck under feature to keep the band in place. My son loves the fact that it has 3 alarm 1. wake him up for school, 2. to remind the teacher dismal from school, 3. when home work is going over the time before his after-school sports to begin. The timer and stop watch lap mode motivate my son to work out daily to beat his best time - he told me to get a watch like his so we can both bike ride together.

I highly highly recommend parents to purchase this watch for their children.

I've been "watching" this watch for a couple of years - wanting it, but frightened away by the MSRP. My first thought was that it would be the perfect timepiece for riding motorcycle. It DOES work better than a conventional watch, but is also angled so that it is more visible with my hands on a steering wheel too!

I spend some time on stage singing Gospel music and I have noticed that it works perfectly for checking time when holding a microphone. There are 5 or 6 watches on top of my dresser, but since this was delivered, it's the only one that I want to wear!

This is my second watch of this style and color. I lost my first one waterskiing/falling (don't wear it waterskiing ... the velcro after a year's use gets less sticky and can't take the force of a fall!) I am glad I found another one because it is a great sports watch and stylish. I like the oversize look with the white and pink giving it a feminine touch. I have gotten lots of compliments for this watch. (The light grey cloth strap shows dirt so be careful wearing it, I cleaned mine on occasion with Oxyclean.)

"Beats timex 30 Lap and Casio 5600" 2009-01-02

Positive: Great watch- very comfortable. Nice large digits- much easier to read than casio g-shock 5600. Watch is much more comfortable than any g shock. I like it slightly more than the timex 30 lap, mostly because the time is easily differentiated from the date on this watch. The styling is also nicer on this watch than on the 30 lap timex core watch- it seems more finished. It has a nice recessed face.

Negs: The flix system is kind of worthless- you have to reset it every day, and you have to really flick your wrist to get it to work. It is easier to just push the button, but this is no big deal for me. Also when you set the timer it is easy to stop it accidentally, or split it by bumping into things, which is also not a big deal. And it doesn't have a year setting, which means that once every four years I will have to adjust the date. Over all, I appreciate the comfort of this watch over any limitations that it may have. It is far superior to any casio G, even with out Solar, Atomic time keeping, Etc.. Solar watches die sooner rather than later- all batteries lose their ability to keep a charge eventually. Also- atomic time keeping is kind of silly because digital watches won't gain/lose more than 30 seconds over a few years. I don't see the need to pay extra.

I bought two of these watchbands in different sizes, one for me and another one for my husbands, since our original rubber ones had both broken. We were excited when we received them because they looked great and had good fit.

The product's quality is just awful, both velcros came off after just two months of use (mine and my husbands) and I had to sew them back on with nylon. Then the velcro came off again... We just gave up.

I would have returned it if I didn't live abroad de US.

I owned this watch for 2 months and the indiglo light stopped functioning. I am guessing the button stopped working. I sent it back to timex and paid the $8 (you can get a replacement under warranty). Timex was great and I promptly received a replacement. Everything worked great until I went to the pool to swim laps. This time the main "start split" button stopped functioning. When I got out of the pool and looked at my watch there was condensation under the face ... apparently the 5-10 ft pool caused a watch rated at 200M to leak.

The other reviewers are correct that the watch is a little on the small side. It really should be listed as uni-sex rather than a men's watch.

I love Timex digital watches. They are everything a watch should be--complete in features, and easy to use. (Not like the incomprehensible and gimmick-laden Casio, which I can't bring myself to buy.)

But when Timex designed its Shock line, its engineers forgot one thing. The case is thicker than in the conventional Ironman. I imagine that's to provide shock-proof qualities and to double its waterproof depth rating. But the volume of the alarms and the timer signals was not boosted to compensate for the thicker case. So they are nearly inaudible.

(Anyway, that's my theory about why they are inaudible. But the fact that they can barely be heard can't be argued.)

As I often rely on my watch for both the alarm and timer signals, this is a real drawback. I have emailed Timex several times about it, but the company has yet to even acknowledge my emails.

Too bad I can't buy a Shock model--I'd really like one.

I bought this watch when I misplaced my other Timex Ironman watch Timex Unisex Ironman 30-Lap Resin Strap Watch #T5K018. They're very similar, with a few exceptions:

1) The Titanium band is lighter

2) To reset the Chrono timer, the titantium band slightly digs into my forefinger when I hit the Stop/Reset button. It's midly annoying.

3) The review previous laps on the Titanium band, you have to first store the laps.

Even after I found the resin band watch, I still wear the Titanium banded watch. It's lighter, and it's nicer looking.

It turns out that it had loose connections. It now works after taking to two seperate places to have it looked at. I purchased this watch with great expectations. After getting used to the watch band clasp and getting "sold" on all the capabilities, I discovered that the buttons were hard to push. Most annoying of all was the fact that the lap counter button would sometimes record 2 laps with one push. Totally threw off the average lap time, etc. It seemed to occur once in every 12 laps.

I returned it and got the Timex Ironman T5K007 (50-laps). First time at the gym it worked perfectly. Also saved some money!

This watch has done exactly what I wanted it for, training. I started to swim a lot, and wanted to start keeping track of my times as I get more serious. 50M resistance is not really for underwater use or to be submerged and this must be the best watch at the lowest price point for 100M resistance. It is ultra comfortable, has a big, readable display and is very light. Also, the buttons are big and easily accessible, which is a big plus if you are active with it. The strap also has not come off yet, even with my hand going in and out of the water so many times.

I have consistently been swimming with the watch for about 4 months now and press the buttons underwater all the time, which the instructions say you're not supposed to do. Some days, I take it into the jacuzzi and it is submerged for the better part of the 15 min I spend in there. After, I have taken it into the sauna for another 15 min. There is not a thing wrong with the watch yet. Well built.

Great value for $[...] bucks. You can't go wrong with this watch.

The strap makes it extremely comfortable to wear. The only problem I have, is that I don't need the lap feature and I find that it makes it a little awkward to use the stop watch at times. However, I expect it to get better as I get used to the watch.

I used to surf and swim with this watch. The body itself performs just as it should. Unfortunatly, if you do use this watch in the water it's gonna create excessive wear on the velcro closure.

After about 3 months of use, during one surf session, I miraculously caught the watch as it was being ripped from my wrist in medium wave conditions. Feeling like it was a fluke, the same thing happed 10 mins later.

oh well, guess i shouldn't be keeping time with a timex while surfing...

While prominent on your wrist the watch is well built. The velcro band allows for fine adjustment so it fits the wrist perfectly and also permits easy on/off. The numbers are large, a convenient feature since I am a soccer referee and also like to run. I am particularly excited about the 6 yr estimated battery life. Tired of changing the battery every two years. If you want something slim and sleek I would not buy this but for any type of sports this watch is made to take abuse. The watch face is a bit busy but once you get used to it, it is still easy to read.

The band just broke but I have used it for over 2 years and I am tough on it. I am replacing the band and the watch still works great.

Inexpensive and well worth it for all it does. I found it to be easy to use for a beginning runner like myself. I swim and shower with it also and never had a problem.

For the price I paid this was a great watch. It does'nt have the latest features that came with it's replacement though.

I liked that this watch had the kind of strap material it does -- no dirt/water worries, but after a lot of use (I'm not quite sure how long I've owned it) the small piece that holds the end of the strap down cracked and broke off, leaving the strap to stick out, and because of the material i couldn't easily fix it (with glue, for example)

I ended up having to buy a new one, another Ironman Timex, but I don't like it quite as much as I liked this one.

Here's a fun story: I've been scuba-diving repeatedly in them, and can personally vouch that they're water resistant up to 130 feet (the recreational scuba limit). I probably will buy a few more, in case Timex quits making them.

There's another model, a half-step up from this one, that's got two separate clocks with alarms - v. useful in case you travel a lot, which I do. Both of them have Indiglo backlighting. The paint on the letters rubs off after a while, but you can still read the buttons. You really can't go wrong with this watch.

I've used a Timex Expedition (B0000D1662) for years, but this is less expensive, more stylish, and more functional - it's as though the prices are backwards.

The IronMan30 has a night-light system that far surpasses the Expedition, with brightly glowing number elements rather than a weakly back-lit face, a more elabore lap/split chronograph, a simpler and more accurate timer, separate day/weekend/weekday alarms, and a recessed face.

That last feature is very important: I've had to replace my Expedition every few years because the face always got scratched, soon after purchase. But the IronMan30 has a recessed face that hasn't been scratched yet!

The IronMan50, by contrast, has what the 30 has plus 20 more laps. If you have more than 30 (even more than 10?) laps to time, you should probably invest in a more expensive watch - one with a heart monitor if not also a compass and/or altimeter, depending where you're doing those laps.

It has a legible display and is very easy to read (considering I swim in an unlit swimmingpool at night).
Great watch - I used to be a fan of the Casio laptimers - but this is way cheaper and far simpler to understand.

Would have preferred a 50 lap timer - but the store I bought it at didnt have one.

I was all about Casio. I am wearing my old Casio G-Shock on a flimsy band I found in some Target. It is still ticking....

The point was to get a new watch that I could wear out AND wear out. There were too many reviews of Casio's biting the dust at an early age. I did not want to buy an early loser.

This brought me to Timex. They have always been rugged and reliable for me; as I am a watch killer par excellence. It looked strong and the reviews were good. There was one problem. Would the reverse screen make that much difference to me in a darkened room? The answer is a resounding NO.

The watch is different because of the white numbers on a black face. It elicits comments; and that is good. It is also loaded with goodies including three programmable time zones; a feature I have already used. The instructions are hazy as to how to switch the watch over to the next time zone even though setting the time in the zones is EASY. To switch to a different time zone, press on the huge start button until you reach the desired zone and hold on to it. The screen will flash several times. Wait until it stops flashing. The watch is now set at the desired time zone. Pressing the start and releasing only moves you into the next zone, and then only long enough to read the time there. It is no problem at all.

The finishing is excellent. The watch FEELS a little heavy, but I have worn it several times with long sleeve dress shirts ( I take a 36 ) and sport jackets. There is plenty of room under the shirt for the watch.

It looks good, feels good, and works just as I expect any new watch to work. It just isn't going outside to cut the lawn until I have had it for a few years. It is my new dress watch and plaything.

Now that I have it I will have to learn golf so as to use the scoring ability programmed within. Buy it with confidence. It may be made in the PRC, but everything they ship to us cannot be bad; and there is no quarreling with the price.

It is a very good watch for the money. Enjoy!

First of all, I like the look of the watch. The dark watch face is very distinctive and very eye catching. The combination of black and grey is part of the look that I like. This is a watch that even looks nice when you are "dressing up."

As with all Timex watches, I like the ease of being able to move from function to function.

This is kind of important also--as I am getting older I appreciate that I can read the displays with ease and without my glasses.

In sum--I really like this watch!!!!

Here's my review of the watch:

Negatives:

1. It isn't so hard to read in normal lighting.

2. The indiglo feature isn't very bright (due to the fact that the digits light up instead of the whole screen lighting up).

3. It is bulky.

4. The color of the digits is not grey as in the picture, it's more yellowish (like a blank LCD screen)

Positives:

1. The digits are large and can be read comfortably

2. Although bulky, it is light in weight (you don't feel that you have a watch on at times).

Over a good watch, legible, light, comfortable.

This is about the 7th Timex Ironman i've had. The up side is the face on this watch seems really touch and hasn't scratched yet, which is a first for me. It does seem very large and sits high on my wrist, and seems to catch on sleeves pretty easily. My main issue is that the indiglow quit after about a year. It's very frustrating when my most expensive Timex performed the worst of all of the Timex's i've had.

"He won't be needing that replacement just yet!" 2008-11-10

I bought this watch for my husband about 4 years ago (or so). He has had zero problems with it. Previous watches with leather wristbands have rotted and became stinky...but this metal and black band has eliminated that issue completely; and it's pretty classy looking too. He has not experienced any of the other wristband issues mentioned in the previous reviews regarding the metal band. Due to our lifestyle, i.e. not swimmers nor out in heavy rainstorms, he has not had any experiences with the water or rain issues mentioned in the reviews. Recently, when we needed to "fall-back" my husband was unable to set it back to the new time and asked me to order a replacement. (A quick check in the owners manual would most likely have shown him his error.) As luck would have it, while searching the web for best prices...I was messing around with the buttons on his watch, and surprise!...I was able to set it to the correct time. He won't be needing that replacement just yet. Very happy with this product.

Long Term Review:

Since the fogging problem went away I have worn this watch as my daily work horse. I love it. It functions very well, has proven to be rugged and reliable, it does all the time functions things I need etc, etc. The band has never been a problem.

I see my first review was something like July 2008. It is now late Jan 2010. It is still going strong, but I a thinking of buying another one just to have around when this one finally bites the dust.... Are you old enoght to remember the ads "Time for another Timex?" Maybe I'll stick one of these in the back of my closet for when that time comes.

Yet another Review Update:

I had a problem with moisture appearing in the watch. That was disappointing because otherwise I liked this watch very much. I thought about sending it back to Timex, but got lazy, menawhile wearing another watch. After several weeks I needed to do some painting, and I wanted a watch I wasn't going to worry about, so I picked up the Ironman. It worked fine, as expected, because I wasn't near any water. But I forgot that I had switched watches and jumped right into the shower with the Ironman still on my wrist.

Gues what? No fogging under the crystal. I've been wearing it for several weeks now in and out of the ocean and shower, and no moisture has reappeard. The watch is working perfectly and is a joy to use.

Go figure.

REVIEW UPDATE:

I have to change my review of this watch because after only a few weeks of wear it has begun to leak water under the crystal. The condensation makes the face unreadable. Apparently this happened in the shower as I have not been swiming/diving/ scuba diving etc with the watch.

Warrantee? We'll see....

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

I wanted a watch that had the timers and chrono features of the Iron Man and also had a metal band. This watch fits the bill perfectly.

As a bonus the setting and mode functions have been improved to be more user friendly than previous Iron Man watches I have owned.

The high contrast face is another nice improvement, making the numbers easy to read in most light conditions, and the Indiglo back light does a great job in the dark.

Although the watch seemed too light when I first took it out of the box giving it a cheap feel, (The band is actually brushed aluminum, not stainless... What did I expect for the price, right?) after wearing it for a while I have come to really appreciate and like the lightness.

Adjusting the length of the band by removing links is easy enough to do if you are a handy person with a good set of magnifying glasses. If not a jeweler could do it for you in a moment. I have a pretty average sized wrist and I had to remove two links from my band to get a good fit. I have had no trouble whatsoever with the band or clasp.

I suspect some of the band issues that other reviewers have noted may be due to the band being left full length causing the watch to not fit snugly to the wrist. This could cause the band to become strained if the watch caught on something.

What follows is not part of the review:

The instructions that come with the watch don't tell you how to adjust the band by removing links, so here is how you do it:

To remove a link from the band first locate the tiny pins holding several links on either side of the clasp. Look closely at each end. One end has a slit in it....take a suitable fine stiff drift and a pair of small pliers and press out the pin FROM THE OPPOSITE END...(i.e. press from the end WITHOUT the slit.) This is more easily done if the band is supported by something hard that has a hole in it to allow the pin to be pressed out. I found a scrap of wood with a hole drilled in it in my shop trash and used that. It takes a lot of pressure to get the pin started out, but once it starts the rest is easy.

Remove the pin at the opposite end of the link(s) to be removed using the same proceedure.

Reassemble the band being sure to insert the pin back in the correct direction. Look at the other pins still in the band so that you get the "slit" side where it belongs. Press the slit end of the pin flush to the side of the link and you are all done.

BTW It helps to do this sort of fine work over a white washcloth. That way the tiny pins are easy to see and won't roll away and get lost!

I purchased this watch because I was looking for a digital watch with a metal band. I have always had great experiences with Timex watches. However, this band is very weak and doesn't hold up to much. It broke the first day I wore it for work. The watch itself I'm sure is good. I had a Timex watch that lasted eight years before the battery ran out. I just don't suggest this particular band.

I have owned this watch for more than a year. I love its size, appearance, and ease of use. The ability to set it using + and - buttons that change the numbers either up or down is especially nice when I have to set the watch back an hour at the end of Daylight Savings Time, but it's also very convenient for setting timers and alarms. All of the controls are large and easy to use yet I don't have trouble with pushing them accidentally. So for functionality I rate this watch a "5".

Unlike some other reviewers I've had no trouble with the watch band, but the case, which is made of a resin composite (only the back is stainless steel), has broken twice -- once on each side of the watch where the pins insert to hold the band in place. I was able to repair it each time by gluing the band to the watch with a little epoxy, and the reduced flexibility of the attachment isn't noticeable. Nevertheless I'm disappointed that the resin doesn't seem to be able to hold up to the force of ordinary use.

I'll replace this watch when the battery runs down (and it's still going strong after more than a year). At that time I'll look for a model with an all-stainless steel case.

I bought this watch for my 16 year old son this holiday season. It is not yet past it's 90 day return, and I am seriously considering a return. It is a great looking watch, with all the must have features my son requires... it's digital, has timers and alarms, it has a more mature, sophisticated look (compared to his previous vinyl banded ironman watches), and we thought it would be able to take the active lifestyle of a teenage boy, all this with a reasonable price tag and the Timex name. Unfortunately we have not had very good luck with the band being durable. In less than 6 weeks it has fallen apart or broken several times. I have called Timex and although the band is mentioned in the warranty as not being covered, they mailed us a new band. I paid a jeweler to replace the band. Although I was totally capable of doing the job myself, my rational was that I would be better off with a professional doing the work since I now knew this was a very fussy band. Well less than two weeks after the jeweler replaced the band it has fallen apart again! This time it is at the junction where the band attaches to the watch. This should be easy to fix...but the reason it has fallen apart is because it is such a tight fit that it doesn't quite snap into place. So it holds temporarily, but eventually pulls apart. My son and I really like everything else about this watch other than it's troublesome band, we haven't found another suitable replacement so we aren't quite ready to give up on it. We are hoping our experience is an unfortunate fluke and that we bought a lemon. We will be contacting Timex again to hopefully solve our problem.

This would be a fine watch if it was actually what the product title proclaimed. I had a 150-lap Timex Ironman Sleek that died an accidental death after a battery change courtesy of the local Wal-Mart staff (I know, what was I thinking...). I needed a replacement and went to trusty Amazon.com and searched Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap. This watch came up and I bought it.

Imagine my disappointment when it arrived and it was NOT a 150-lap Ironman as advertised - it was only a 50-lap Ironman, with much different styling than my previous watch. Had I enlarged the photo and looked much closer, I would have realized that in tiny writing on the watch face in the photo, it said "50 LAP". But I didn't, and was disappointed in the watch when it arrived. Sigh. Please, get it right Amazon - I buy tons of things from you (and will continue to do so), but very much prefer getting the product that is described in the Item Description and Title.

[EDIT: 17 October: A week or so after I posted my review, it appears that the Amazon folks actually read it and went back to correct the title and description of the watch. Now, the titles and description actually match the watch I got - which is a nice watch in its own way, but not the one that I had ordered or expected to receive. The only thing I would add is that the side buttons on this watch feel a little bit funny, as they are hidden/integrated into a ridge that runs around the edge of the watch. They always felt a little "cheap" every time I pressed them, although I am sure the watch is still waterproof and so on. Anyway, I will keep this watch as a backup, as I have finally received the proper 150-lap Ironman Sleek that I was initially anticipating]

I mostly need a watch to time my interval runs in the early morning.

This watch is just too dark to read in the twilight--you have to hit the indiglo if you want to know your time halfway through your interval. Normal watches are pretty visible particularly if you pass a street light, but I just can't read this one until it is pretty light out--and even then I have to take a good look.

Most of the rest of the functionality is good, standard Timex. The frame is metal, the band is one-piece, so if it breaks you are probably looking at a new watch. The cool factor is pretty high--I really like the look. The buttons feel pretty stiff, which I like, but others may not.

I have gone through more than a dozen watches in the last 15 years (including the timex flix 100, heart monitor watches, Nike Vapor 300, and others--all quit within a year without trauma)--before that I had a timex triathlon that I had used for about 8 years. I keep looking for one that will do all the things this watch does and will last for more than 8 months. I will keep this watch, but if I would rather have the standard screen, which is far more readable.

I've been through three of these watches. The band is poorly design and they have an unusually small pin connection to the watch. The cheap plastic on the watch breaks at the connection. I love this watch but seem to have designed it to fall apart so you have to keep buying new ones. It's junk.

I love this watch and the previous similar models.

Pros:

It keeps accurate time,

Looks good,

Is waterproof even in the shower, diving, or surfing,

Is light weight,

The Indiglo light is great,

The functions are easy to use,

You don't need the manual to figure it out, unlike Casio,

Stainless steel band looks great and lasts for years.

Band is easy to adjust compared to Casio.

The price is low so you can just buy a new one when the battery goes,

The battery lasts for years if you don't use the light or alarm too much,

I'm very active and hard on watches. As they say, it takes a linkin' and keeps on tickin'.

Cons:

The band is stainless steel but the silver color on the watch is just silver paint on plastic. It wears away by the time the battery fades. That's ok with me because I just buy a new watch anyway.

I have trained for 2 marathons and 2 half marathons with this equipment. Can't run without I need the feed back to keep a steady pace. Satellite lock up is good. When you couple the heart rate monitor and date sensor you can keep an accurate running journal. Every time I think maybe the equipment has reached it life span a new battery in the watch and one in the heart rate monitor has got me right back on track.

I do wish Timex would add topology capability. After reading reviews on other brands I am going to buy my wife a Timex Bodylink.

I've had this watch for several years. I love the size, the feel, the ease of seeing the time without having to rotate my wrist. The Optimal Viewing Angle is really neat, and does just what Timex says it is supposed to do. My only complaint is the poorly designed molded wrist band, which fails along the top of the case. This has happened four times to me, just about every six months even though I've been careful in wearing the watch and not stressing the band. Since the band is molded to the case, it is not user repairable. You can get it repaired for $10 through Timex. But you would think that Timex would wake up and design a better, more robust band system.

I have the smaller model and have returned 5 of these to timex for replacement. They replace the entire watch because the band is integral to the watch. I get 6 - 10 months/watch. I ended up buying another one so that I have a ready replacement. Today I got my replacement for my black watch. They exchanged it for a baby blue model with a dead battery! I'll call them tomorrow.

I love the watch otherwise, especially the stop watch and alarm (daily, weekend only, week days only, etc.)

The Timex OVA watches are great, but unfortunately the watch band is not adequate. It is badly designed and it will break - almost guaranteed- within 6 months of just normal use. Since the band is molded into the watch structure itself, you can't replace it. Timex has a repair site in Arkansas that will replace the band for $10. Maybe that sounds like a good deal, but this has happened to me four times! Timex should change the design and do away with the flimsy resin watch band. I'm about ready to trade in my [[ASIN:B000I85IU6 Timex Ironman Triathlon 75-Lap Sleek OVA Watch T5E461] for another sport watch.

I loved the position of the watch face on the inner part of my wrist. It makes complete sense to have it there to avoid twisting your hand to see the time. Excellent position when riding a bike too.

The features of the watch are great - chronograph, timer, and alarms are easy to use and set. The indiglo light is great for low light conditions.

My biggest peeve about the OVA design has to do with the wristband design. The flat part of the watch does not comform to the shape of my wrist so even with the band somewhat tight, it would slip from one side to the other rather than remaining on the optimal spot it was designed for. I compensated for this by molding a couple of silicone putty ear plugs on each side of the wristband.

The wristband also comes with too few tightness options. It's either too tight or too loose. The band is completely integrated with the rest of the watch so it is not replaceable. I wished a velcro type aftermarket strap were an option for a more custom fit.

After a year of wearing this watch, the thin web-like plastic strap broke and there's no way to save it and the watch is now unwearable. It's a pity because it still functions fine but the non-replaceable plastic strap makes it unusable.

I wish Timex would take some time to redesign the OVA concept. It's about 75% there. The 25% shortcomings makes it hard to justify buying another one. I've gone back to a more standard sportwatch.

The Timex Ironman Triathlon Sleek 50-lap watch is everything that a hard core runner could want in a watch. Its dial is quite legible during the hardest of workouts, and the case and band hold up well in hot weather, wet weather, cold weather, and everything in between. The ease of taking split times also makes it quite useful for coaching during track and cross-country meets. The last watch I had like this lasted eight years, and I just bought a new one exactly like it. You can't beat this watch for the price, function, and durability!

I have reviewed this exact watch elsewhere on Amazon but it seems no longer to be sold, so I'm doing it again here.

This particular watch is the successor (at least from the stores I go to) to the other Ironman Triathlon watch with more of a black appear to it. Functionally the watches are the same. I rated the other one 5 stars (of 100+ reviews mine is one of the best for the watch according to people's ratings). It is the best watch I've ever owned. Its strap eventually died and it cannot be replaced so I bought this one.

Like I said, functionally the same watch, but the buttons are interminably hard to press. I am not the only one with this problem and others have reported it, too. Every single button requires far too much effort to press. The lap button is particularly annoying and in a fairly short time I have actually worn the rubber cover on mine completely off down to the hard plastic.

Truth be told I dream frequently of sledging this watch on my garage floor and one day I believe I will. I need to be sure I have a suitable replacement first. If Timex would make the buttons how they used to be on the old one I would be a fan once more.

I bought this as a replacement for my casio g-shock which would have cost more to replace battery than it was worth. I like the font size of the display time - very easy to read. I love the buttons, which are a lot easier to use than my old g-shock. When you set up items, the screen gives feedback directing your selections, again, nice interface. The indigo is great! I use it all the time to view at nite. The color is very nice looking too. The only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is the strap. The strap holder, has a notch on it that I guess is a design item to keep better hold of the strap. I find it makes it a lot harder to slide the strap in/out because the strap holder keeps grabbing the strap, when I just want to slide the strap thru. I wish they'd just put a normal strap holder. Other than that, it's a fine watch for the price.

Not as tough as I thought. The indiglo quit working after 8 months. I replaced the battery...a massive pain in itself...but nothing. Resealing didn't work the first time.

I have to drop the rating to a 2. I don't think this is for sale anymore anyway.

I won't review the features of this watch for the 20th time here. The biggest issue with this watch is...well it is big.

From a "looks" perspective, if you are a petite man, this is definately not the watch for you. It would look like you are wearing your dad's watch. The thickness is the other issue. It will bump into things now and then, but its a Shock...it can take it. You would not want to be working in an engine compartment with this on.

I have had it for 4 months and the depth of the crystal seems to protect it from getting scratched.

It is durable, does the things you would expect and the price has come down lately. If a big, durable, cheap, shock watch is what you are looking for...go no further.

This is a good watch for runners and other athletes who need to keep track of time. The 30-lap timer makes it easy to keep record of your progress.

This is a solid watch that "takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'." I can take it on any adventure and not worry about it breaking or anything like that.

As far as timing, it's more accurate than my Rolex, which isn't saying much, if you've ever seen how accurate a Rolex is. :) More or less, set it for forget it.

Nice big display. Big buttons. Easy to use when you're running.

Keeps great time. I compare it with my atomic clocks. Quite rugged, in my opinion. Yes it is large. That doesn't really bother me. I really actually LIKE the resistant buttons. I have another Timex that has very touchy buttons that I am constantly bumping. I like that these are harder to push. I like all the features, but I am not a golfer, but that is okay. I just turn that one off.

I wish the backlight was a little brighter. Even in pitch black dark it is barely sufficient. I would have preferred a full face backlight, similar to Casio's. One other thing that disappointed me is, it didn't have the ability to set alarms on specific days of the week. My other Timex has this. I was surprised this one didn't. It does have the Occasion alarm you can set. That is nice, but you can't set a specific time. It just goes off at 8:00 AM. What if your occasion starts at 7:30 AM as some of mine do? Hmmm......

I was going to have to gripe about the watch band. I am a big fan of the fastwrap watchband, but when I got this it had a very sharp edge that kept digging into my wrist and making it quite sore! I put it, believe it or not, under a microscope and saw the edge of the velcro backing was flush with the edge of the watchband. OOPS! BAD DESIGN, Timex! You don't put the Velcro backing flush with the band! I was able to trim it back from the edge of the band material and it is fine! Feels great, now! So, not a big killer. The only other gripe, pardon me Amazon, is that this watch isn't available at any store that I can find, at least in our area. I did get a GREAT price from Amazon, though!

I would highly recommend this watch! I don't think you can go wrong for sports, hiking, boating, etc.

I didn't think I would like the black backgound but running with this watch under bright conditions, the numbers are very easy to read. I'm tickled to death with this watch - and considering the price you cannot go wrong. Digital display is big enough to easily see even when running - probably a bit over 1/4" tall. The various functions are intuitive - a real bonus on any multi-function watch. User note: In "Set" mode, be on the look out for the little "+", "-" and "Done" signs that temporarily re-label four of the big exterior buttons; once you catch those, setting & resetting becomes very easy. I'd call it a mid-sized watch and while standing quite tall it is rounded enouth not to catch on clothing or bump every door frame, lamp post in sight. Ironically, I bought it for the Timer function, but it has become my casual watch of choice. As a "watch/watch" I've gotten much use from the dual time zone feature. In normal watch mode, pushing the "start lap" button gives you an immediate look at a second time zone, day, and date - great feature if you have friends & colleagues scattered around. The overall workmanship and detailing is quite amazing for a watch of this price.

I already had one Ironman watch I got 3 years ago and it works great. However the resin band is starting to crack so I got a second one as a backup while I get the first one repaired. These watches don't disappoint, they look nice, keep very good time and are easy to see at night.

I work for a living and having a watch on is important, other watch brands I've tried have lasted six months at most. Bands break, keepers snap off or they just don't keep good time even with a new battery. With the Ironman watch I never have to worry about it.

One down side to this watch though is the battery replacement. It has two batteries, one for the analog hands and one for the digital readout. The analog runs down first and is hidden under the digital one. so be aware of that if you have to change it. Other then that, it's nice enough for dress and tough enough for work/play.

Enjoy, you won't regret it.

This is a great running watch. I love the ana-digi combo. Chrono & count down timer work great. Only thing is that the picture doesn't depict the watch you get exactly. For the price, this is a very nice digital watch. It's easy enough to use, even without the directions, and it has all of the standard features a digital watch should have; namingly that it's waterproof for the average person (it's fine if you swim or take showers with it) it can carry two times (analog and digital) which makes it ideal if you often travel to different time zones, it has an alarm, a lap timer, carries the date and day, and the digital interface can be 'hidden' so that it can double as a professional looking watch, save the rubber band. It's comfortable and light. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a simple digital watch. Timex does a good job. The Indiglo lighting is also good.

I've been using this watch for about a week. And I have come to some conclusions. As a side note, I have used a timex for a couple of years until it broke. It was a great watch and I liked it.

Pros:

- It is pretty nice looking.

- It has dual displays with big digital letters.

- It is relatively comfortable, unless you have thin wrists.

- It has lots functions and it is easy to use.

Cons:

- The accuracy! I am very disappointed that it is far from accurate. In one week the analog dial is 4 secs faster and the digital display 3 seconds faster.

- The bands are, as others have said, weak. They are thin and with designed grooves that will break in the future. And they don't seem to be user replaceable.

Conclusion:

For the price, it is a pretty watch. It is very functional and overall I like it. My only really gripe is the accuracy.

"Great for golfers!" 2009-10-12

I bought this watch specifically for its ability to help me keep my golf score. Unfortunately for me, I am not a great golfer so it is hard for me to keep track of my shots. I've tried counting beads and little clickers but I always seem to forget to move the bead after each shot because it is not on my person. The watch is so easy to use...I take my shot, and then click a button. It keeps your score for each hole, your score for the front and back nine and your total score! I also wear this watch for tennis. The watch sort of has a high profile, more so than some of Timex's daintier work out watches but I am getting used to it. Also, I have relatively small wrists but I am able to wear it on the 1st or 2nd hole and it fits fine. I've only had the watch for about three weeks so I have not noticed the pink plastic turning yellow yet but so far there is no indication that it will.

Well, here's a bummer. This watch is unbelievably cute, and I adore Timex watches in this style - you can beat them to death and they keep going, great functionality, etc. However, within only a couple of weeks the pink rubber on this watch had noticeably started to turn yellow. I may call Timex about it, but I'm not sure I can find the paperwork...maybe I should buy another one to see how well it wears.

I'm going to keep this one and wear it out in the yard and whatever, but the yellowed tone will probably stop me from wearing it on any fashion-related occasions. ;)

"Totally unreliable" 2009-09-22

Bought two of these, didn't like the color on the gray one I got at a store too much, so gave it to my kid and bought the one with the black band at Amazon. Both died. One stopped working after one month, the other after about 4 months of normal use. Same problem, indiglo stops working, then watch freezes or goes dead. After a while comes back to life but works erratically. After my first breakdwon I went online and saw a lot of reviews from folks who had the same happen to them. I think Timex hasn't quite gotten the solar thing right. Buyer beware.

I like this watch a lot. The face is easy to read, and the buttons are well placed and easy to operate. The back-light activates fine and gives enough visibility to see the time on the face. The watch also looks sporty and stylish. The watchband was a little firm at first but now it's easy for me to undo the band or re-clasp the band when putting the watch on.

Got 2 of these watches and literally returned them the next day. Tick... Tick... Tick.. Tick... That would eventurally drive me crazy but then again i am easily annoyed. For $30 they are a great deal but they were not what i expected and they were way to loud for me. I returned both of them and paid another $15 amd picked up a Seiko 5.

Should have purchased through Amazon; I paid full price. Decent watch for Amazon's price; comfortable leather on the inside of the band, Indiglo feature, OK for rain, showers, light swimming. Easy to read; no alarm. If you want a fairly rugged, inexpensive low-tech analog watch, this one is fine if you get it on sale.

"I hate this watch!" 2009-12-04

As a lifelong Timex wearer, I thought this watch would be up to Timex standards. It's not! The face is so dark, you can hardly tell what time it is without pushing the indiglo button (kind of a pain)especially if you're in the water. Incidentally, the instructions say not to push buttons in the water or you could damage the integrity of the waterproof seal ... uh, hello ... it's a triathlon watch! The alarm is relatively faint, and the buttons are not at all user friendly. In fact, it takes 10 button pushes simply to set the hourly chime. Very disappointing! Oh, and one more thing ... I was initially led to believe this was a 5-alarm watch like my former triathlon watch. It only has 3 alarms.

The watch itself is great but the reverse display is very disappointing. If you actually want this watch for competitive sporting purposes, swimming in particular, then I would go for the black on white display as a quick glimpse at this diplay I fear would not be possible and would consequently lose you valuable time.

I purchased this watch with great expectations. After getting used to the watch band clasp and getting "sold" on all the capabilities, I discovered that the buttons were hard to push. Most annoying of all was the fact that the lap counter button would sometimes record 2 laps with one push. Totally threw off the average lap time, etc. It seemed to occur once in every 12 laps.

I returned it and got the Timex Ironman T5K007 (50-laps). First time at the gym it worked perfectly. Also saved some money!
